COUNCILWOMAN CAMPOS GIVES BIRTH, DEFENDS PLAN FROM MATERNITY WARD:
"On the eve of a big vote on her controversial proposal to ban new fast-food restaurants in San Jose, Councilwoman Nora Campos was interrupted by some urgent and unexpected business: the birth of her first child."
San Jose's Mayor, Chuck Reed, was quoted as saying "I certainly believe childhood obesity is a problem," but then claimed "I don't think this proposal will solve it. It's a bad idea."
Campos' idea was instead they punted by her fellow council members to two obscure committees to be pondered further. Many of them stated their lack of faith in the idea, however.
The proposal in San Jose is similar to one already made into law in the city of Los Angeles.
San Jose is the third largest city in contemporary California. Los Angeles is the largest in the state, followed by San Diego, which is second. San Jose is also the largest city in the San Francisco Bay area and is within the Santa Clara County/ Silicon Valley area.
